First UK leg today and I was joined by ultra-runner Kevin Matthews for the entire distance from Dover to Faversham. We started off very spritely and on plan at 0700. It was fantastic running through the English countryside and felt really great to be home. Completed the first 19 miles (with the usual break at 10 miles) in a time which was faster than any of the legs to date and I was feeling really up for the run. The planned distance today was 26.5 miles, but some how, and we are still unsure how, we ran 29.5 miles. I can tell you that the extra 3 nearly killed me in the midday heat! That all said, still managed a sprint finish – although the rest of the team have now told me to stop sprinting!
Aching lots this evening as a result of the extra miles, but the machine still goes on and 0700 tomorrow I have another marathon to run!
Many thanks for all of your fantastic support, sponsorship and kind messages over the past few weeks. It is all of these that help me ignore my legs when they are screaming at me! Xxx
